Important safety notices
Any railway, even a miniature one, can pose potential hazards. Please take care on the site, do not enter any fenced-off areas, and obey all signs and instructions from our volunteers.
First aid:
Several of our volunteers are qualified first aiders. We have an AED in the station building along with a first aid kit. If you need help, please alert a volunteer.
Children under 12 months old:
We regret that due to the terms of our insurance cover, we are not able to carry children under 12 months as passengers on our trains. Any children under 12 months are of course still welcome on site.
Safety whilst riding on our trains:
Whilst travelling on the trains, passengers must keep their hands and feet within the confines of our sit-in coaches, must not lean over and must keep their feet on the running boards of the sit-astride coaches. All passengers must remain seated until the train becomes stationary at a designated stopping place. Young children must sit on the carriage seats, not on laps, held in arms or carried in a sling.
Once passengers have boarded the train they must not get off for any reason (this includes taking photographs) until the train reaches its final destination, unless instructed by one of our volunteers.
Steam locomotives warning:
By their very nature steam locomotives emit smoke, smuts, steam and oil. The railway cannot be held responsible for any staining of clothes or any other damage caused.
Children:
Please watch over your children at all times, particularly near trains and on uneven surfaces. With our large site, it is very easy for them to wander off. When travelling on the trains, children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
Although volunteers who work on the railway are subject to a DBS check we cannot be responsible for visitors to the site, although we try to be vigilant at all times.
Dogs:
Dogs brought on site remain the responsibility of their owners and must be kept on a lead and not left unattended at any time. Owners are also responsible for clearing up! Please note that dogs cannot ride on the trains.
The Pond:
We always encourage our visitors to walk down to our wonderful pond. However, please keep children under supervision at all times and observe the deep water signs.
