BIRTHDAY PARTIES

A dedicated private area between the Ticket Office and the railway may be pre-booked for children's birthday parties. This area offers good views of the trains and has tables and seats under cover. Tickets for train rides may be purchased at reduced rates and passengers have their own private platform for boarding trains. This facility is only available on regular running days (and not on special event days). Early booking is therefore recommended. For further details and a booking form, please see "birthday bookings" on our contacts page.

FOOTBRIDGE

The footbridge to the right of the station provides a great viewing platform where trains can be seen leaving the tunnel and approaching the unloading platform. The footbridge gives access to the centre of the site and our large pond.
Picture
THE TOAD

The grey brake van, known as "Toad" located next to the ticket office provides information on what routes and trains are operating, found on the running board on the front of the van. "Toad" can also be used as an information point and lost property or lost children point*

*when not used please report any lost property or lost children to any member of mizens staff or ticket office.

LOCO and ROLLING STOCK SHEDS

The loco depot and turntable provide an insight into the preparation and maintenance of our loco fleet, especially shortly before and after or running sessions.
Picture
SOUTH SIGNAL BOX

A glimpse into our main signal box reveals the way we operate the railway in a way similar to full-size practice, using a 1/2 size lever frame to operate the points and signals.
Picture
THE SLAM DOOR

A full-size mainline Connex slam-door electric Driving Trailer coach that dominates the station approach. We plan to permit public access to the driving cab in the future.

DUBS LOCO

No one can fail to see the splendid full-size loco at the entrance to our site. This is a 3ft 6in gauge  "A" Class 4-8-2 tank engine built by the Dubs works (later the North British) in Glasgow in 1900 for the Natal Government Railway in South Africa. It later became South African Railways No 196. It was brought back from South Africa to the UK by the North British Locomotive Preservation Group in 2011 and we are proud to have provided some support for this project and a home for the loco at Mizens. There is a photographic display of the loco's arrival and unloading in the station building.
